The IPCC states, in its fifth climate report (2013-2014), that it is highly probable that there will be more extreme weather, longer droughts, more violent storms and more intense rainfall.
It is extremely important for them to know the effects of climate change in terms of both the scope and the long-term consequences. The long-term implications are particularly unclear. Deltares has the latest knowledge in the field of climate adaptation and dealing with uncertainties. This is a field that is developing rapidly at the international level and applications always have to be tailored to the individual circumstances.
In the Netherlands, we will continue developing knowledge to implement the delta decisions made in 2015. At the international level too, we are helping more and more governments, businesses and NGOs to draw up plans for adapting to climate change. In order to share our knowledge internationally, we are working with UNESCO-IHE, the Army Corps of Engineers and the University of Massachusetts on the development of a transatlantic training course on climate adaptation.
